Batch Cooking for the Week, Without Eating the Same Thing Every Day

Cook components, not meals. A grain, a bean, a roasted vegetable, and two sauces make ten different lunches.

The short answer: spend two hours on Sunday cooking components that combine in different ways, instead of five identical meals.
The formula
Pick one from each row and you have a week:
| Component | Examples | Keeps |
|---|---|---|
| A grain | Farro, rice, quinoa | 5 days |
| A bean or protein | Braised white beans, roast chicken | 4–5 days |
| A roasted vegetable | Squash, broccoli, carrots | 4 days |
| A crunchy thing | Pickled onions, toasted seeds | 2 weeks |
| Two sauces | Tahini-lemon, chili crisp | 1 week |
A two-hour Sunday
- 0:00: Put the beans on to simmer and the oven on to heat.
- 0:15: Chop the vegetables; get the first sheet pan in.
- 0:30: Start the grain.
- 0:45: Make the pickles and sauces while everything cooks.
- 1:30: Cool everything before it goes in containers. Warm food in sealed containers sweats and spoils faster.
